A high-level stakeholder meeting was organized by APSI on April 24th, 2025 at the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. Key stakeholders from the NITI Aayog, Principal Scientific Adviser’s (PSA) Office, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Biotechnology and Indian Council of Medical Research attended the convening. APSI leadership appraised the attendees about ongoing activities of the consortium in disease surveillance. The importance of integrating wastewater surveillance into current surveillance programs was highlighted. NITI Aayog member, Dr. Vinod K. Paul delivered the Keynote Address in the Inaugural Session discussing the significance of leveraging wastewater surveillance as a public health response for detecting dieseases of public health concern. Special addresses by Dr. Ajay Sood (PSA) and Dr. N. K. Arora (Executive Director, INCLEN International) highlighted the importance of building an integrated environmental surveillance system under India’s One Health Mission. In-depth panel discussions were carried out by senior officials from multiple institutions including National Centre for Disease Control, Access Health International, Department of Biotechnology, Public Health Foundation of India and Confederation of the Indian Industry. The convening ended on a positive note of utilizing and integrating environmental surveillance protocols developed by APSI in disease surveillance programs of India for early detection of diseases.
